Switches along the bottom of the monitor don't work.

This monitor had been discarded in the back hall ofmy apartment building with a note that it still worked well. I took it home and plugged it in to my PC desktop and the display (and builtin speakers) works well but the panel of buttons along the front bottom don't work. Even the power button will not turn it off.

(Also occasionally I get a floating alert in the centre of teh screen with my display settings on it. Annoying but it usually goes away after a few seconds.) It says 1024X768, brightness 58, H:48.4 KHZ, V: 60.0HZ)
