why will my ipod only play on my idock?

My iPod will only charge or play on my iDock but once i take it off it goes dead and my computer does nothing to help

Could be a bad logic board too. I've had new batteries not work in iPod videos before. Try the battery. If that doesn't work, get a new logic board.
