Late 2011 iMac 21.5" - Replace internal hard drive

The hard drive in my late 2011 21.5" iMac will not mount. I want to replace it with an ssd internal drive. Is this possible? What model do you recommend?

I too have a late 2011(educational modal) 21.5 iMac . And I replaced both the hard drive & optical drive with ssd kits for OWC. Works great . Also upgraded to a i7 2600 processor and maxed out my ram to 32g. It works perfect . Solid performance now.

Chosen Solution

iMac "Core i3" 3.1 21.5-Inch Aluminum (Late 2011/Education Only) -- which only was available for sale originally to educational institutions

The guide from the EMC 2428 will work.

You will need to incorporate an OWC In-line Digital Thermal Sensor for iMac 2011 Hard Drive Upgrade to prevent run away fans.

Here's how to install the drive: iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2428 Hard Drive Replacement
