iPod is disabled connect to itunes however iI can't seem to reset
What can I do to erase my old ipod and get it working again? I pressed the home and lock buttons at the same time and nothing worked. It is also not recognised on this new laptop. Any options?

Usually you hold the two keys you mention until it turns off and keep holding the home button key when its plugged in with apple logo appearing to get the iPod to boot recovery mode.
Then you should be able to select restore in iTunes.
