black screen after screen replace

hello

i have been repairing phones/cameras and anything else i can get my hands on for many years and this is the first phone thats giving me a lot of trouble. i have tried a few different screens and all i get is a black screen. i can see the apple logo when i force a reboot and i had a brief flash on light on the screen when i connected a charger. i have cleaned all the joints and connectors.

anyone have any ideas on any other tricks

This sounds like a issue with the backlight ic on the logic board. I'd wait for others to comment as they probably know more about this kind of issue.

is there any way you can get a light behind the screen? if the backlight burnt out, using a light behind the screen should help figure out if theres nothing showing on the screen or if the backlight is having issues.

The other few things to check would be the 2 connectors that control the display and the backlight. Those connectors can bend quite easy, verify that they are flat before placing them on the logic board and work from one side to the other to help ensure correct seating. You mention the screen flickered or lit up? Apple can be funny with diagnostic codes. Sometimes the code is displayed via a certain color millisecond splash screen "flicker". Also, the proximity sensor and ambient light sensor can be damaged easily in those repairs and may keep the device from booting to protect itself. Occasionally by disconnecting just the flex cable from the logic board that contains those sensors and the front facing camera, will allow it to boot fully and confirm the issue. Best of luck

Can confirm this, have damaged the proximity sensor a few times causing the phone not to boot up until unplugging the front camera assembly ribbon cable.
