Surges (heavy jerks) when shifting between 1st and 2nd gear

Would the 700R4 Transmission be the issue with heavy jerking of my 85 Z28 TPI when it shifts between 1st and 2nd gear on easy acceleration ?

Would this be related to a slight surging at 40 = 50 mph?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Two things to check for simple fix.

1. Is the transmission fluid at the correct level and in good condition? Is the color of the fluid a clear, light red color?

2. Examine the engine and transmission for loose or damaged vacumn hoses.

Both of these can cause hard shifting.

You could of course take the car to a mechanic who can connect diagnostic equipment and tell you exactly what the problem is.

Transmission problems rarely fix themselves and the earlier you do something about it, the cheaper the repair.

To clarify, when car shifts between 1 and 2nd, it jerks a couple times and it almost seems like motor is stalling, but I believe its transmission doing the jerks, not motor. Still think its vacumn related?

Could be, my son's car was shifting hard during up shift but not during down shift. When I took it to the shop initially the mechanic thought the transmission was going to need to be rebuilt.($$$$)

He called me a couple hours later said he found a leaking vacumn line. ($) Problem solved.

Not saying this IS the problem, but it could be.

I have a manual Nissan Qashqai dci, where when I hold the clutch stick left, in order to switch to 1st or 2nd gear, I find it very difficult or almost impossible.

I also have a qashqai dci, 2013 model. I think the gearshift isn't an exact H, more like a W. They seem offset a bit, I tend to push directly forward to go from 2 to 3, and there's a very definite left-to-right move when going 5-6. I've not had problems with 1-2, although I feel a little lip in there which catches if I have a lot of pressure to the left. Mine slides past it though.
