VESA Mount Removal, Install new Foot

Hi,

I work for a school, and we recently purchased 5 of the 5k 27" iMacs. I am currently away and didn't have anything to do with the purchase. My team has ordered the iMacs with the VESA mounts as they thought they would be an accessory in the box.

Apple won't return them, or provide feet. So I wanted to know if I purchased feet for these iMacs. Internally is the machine the same, is the other end of the VESA mount attached to the mechanism? Or have apple removed the mech in these models and attached the VESA straight to the rear housing?

Thanks

Garrett

Hello Garret.

Sorry if I am repeating myself but I am desperate to be able to replace the foot with a VESA mount. Do you have any of the 5 VESA mounts and hardware left so I can purchase on from you?

I look forward to hearing from you.

It was a lot of work, had to buy the mechanism too as they removed the spring mech and replaced with a plate. Also needed to buy the screws to mount the stand to the new mech.

Hi again Garret... would you mind sharing where did you get all the parts you need for the mount of your bases? (if i understood correctly.. you want to have the original stand in L shape instead of the VESA mount that the units came with... right?)

Thank you!

Garrett ordered the standard foot and hinge plate to replace the VESA mounts to regain the standard foot as he got the wrong version of the iMac's that he wanted.

The first image is the VESA mount plate (which you can't get) and the second is the hinge unit which can be ordered as a spare! He also needed some screws and the foot, both of which can be ordered as well.

Hello.

I am very interested to hear if you able to get parts and instal the VESA mount. I am desperately trying to figure out how I can do this to my iMac 2014.

This one has to be torn down to get to it. See this answer which is basically your question in reverse: Is the stand removable?

Another option here is to get a VESA foot stand while not the same as the Apple Foot, it should allow you to at least use the systems. Frankly, in a school environment you may find having the mount bolted down so the systems don't grow feet and walk away ;-}

Thanks Dan, I got the apple foot and just replaced them myself =)

Wow! That was a lot of work!

Save the VESA hardware you took out. There're people who would buy the parts as they can't be bought!

Like me, for example. Can I please buy the VESA mount hardware??

AND ME!!!! CAN YOU SELL ME ONE?

Garret... do you know if this mounts might fit my computer?

My iMac is a late 2014 27" 5k... are those computers the same model or compatible?

I would think and hope that if your computers are 2015 or 2016 models that Apple did not change the configuration yet... i have looked at options out there and none of them is the one i need... my neck is getting problems because the screen is too high... and i refuse to build a platform to raise my chair, and even worst would be to cut a hole in my desk in order to fit it in there... im a sucker for aesthetics.

so.. can you help Garret? how can securely and safely contact you?

Thank you!

Hello,

I got excactly the same problem.

Have bought iMac27 (2017 Modell) with VESA mount withiut knowing that it comes wirhout stand. Seller refuses to take it back.

@Garret: did you succesfully mounted the original apple stand by yourself? Where did you get the original stand and the mechanics (and maybe the screws)?

Is the imac tiltable with your setup?

Hi Peter,

It worked on the 5 we had at the school. They were all apple original parts.

I had to buy a stand, the mechanism (the part with the springs that makes it tiltable) and the screws to fix the stand to the mechanism.

I had to do quite a bit of shopping around to find it, I had most of my success on the website AliExpress.com and had the parts shipped from china.

Just a quick search I found.

Stand -

Mechanism -

If you need any help with the replacement, my email is garrett@garrettmacarthur.com

Thanks
