The highest system your machine will take is 10.5. 10.6 is for Intel machines only. Start up from your retail 10.5 system disk and go to the second page pull down menu. If your drive is new, go to Utilities, Disk Utility and format it. Then close that and install your system. Then do the software updates about three times. to get to 10.5.8

Purchase an install

disk - For best results, do a full backup to an external drive. Use install->Tools to erase/repartition the drive and install the new OS then Migration Assistant to import the backup data to the new OS.

You can do an upgrade/install but it could have problems if your disk directory is not pristine.

Good afternoon gentlemen,

My iMac version 10.5.8

memory 1GB

Processor 2.4 GHz

It's running and downloding very slow and totally freez. My question. Is snow leopard the next upgrade to do ??
