Why does my phone occasionally stop working?

I have had my iPhone 5s for about two years now. It has been in perfect shape and never been ruined. I just recently lost control of my home button. It would glitch and work when it wanted, or not at all, until now, the home button just doesn't work anymore. I didn't really have a problem with that, because I had the accessive touch turned on to help me with the home button. But now, I've been having problems where when I go to download an app, I'm pretty sure it's always when I'm on the App Store, the accessive touch buttons won't work, or any buttons on the screen, it would react to me touching it, but not do anything. Then I will turn off the screen, and it won't turn back on, and the vibration of the silent button on the side will vibrate, but no display will show. I don't remember the last time on how I got it to work properly, but this just happened to me again, and now it won't turn back on for me. I would really like some help, and maybe more information on why my home button has stopped working?

Hi Amirah,

If the phone has never been dropped, stepped on, water-logged, or abused even a little bit, then this could be a software issue. Start with simply powering off and on (I'm sure you've tried that already). If that doesn't clear the issue then reboot by pressing the power and home button at the same time for few seconds until the Apple logo appears. If still nothing, then try tethering it to your computer to initiate iTunes - perhaps you need an update or iTunes may be able to detect the problem and fix it. Hopefully this is a good start to resolving this issue.

Ive tried powering off, but there is no way i can do that if the screen isn't on. And I cannot reboot because as I've said before, my home button has lost function even before this issue. Also downloading iTunes on my computer makes it really slow, and hard to use, which is why I haven't redownloaded it.

Ok, good - we went through the first few (and free) troubleshooting steps. My next recommendation would be to swap out the Display Assembly to see if we can get it to light up. This is a delicate procedure because of the Home Button cable - refer to the guide below on how to swap a Display Assembly. Also, only the original Home Button will allow the Touch ID to function. If you conclude that your Home Button is also faulty and have to replace it, just know the Touch ID function will no longer be an option - refer to the guide below on how to replace the Home Button.

I have had that problem too! My 16GB iPhone 5S suddenly become black screen when i using it, and do not have any responds untill after it finished restart automatically.

At first, i though it might caused by a certain app, but i delete the apps, and my iPhone still continue to become black screen.

At last, i tried a software and delete all the junk files and temporary files, and get about 5GB free storage for my iPhone.

Now it work normally now, i can't make sure the problem fixed by getting enough free storage or clearing up junk files. Anymore, you can both of them.
