Stick vac not charging

Hi, I was using my beloved Ergorapido (20 months old, working well to this point), battery was probably getting quite low, when all of a sudden it cut out, but in a stranger way than usually when the battery runs out. The suction usually drops off for a couple of minutes before the whole thing cuts out, but there was still fairly good suction at that point - motor still quite loud.

I put it on to charge but nothing is happening. When I place the whole stick vac on the charger the charging light lights up for a split second but then goes off. Same thing when I put the hand vac into the stick vac body while on the charger. So there is some initial current happening but it's not going beyond that.

I know batteries are problematic on these units, but it's not a case of it gradually losing charge capacity - this was very sudden.

Any help appreciated!

Hi, I'm having the same problem. Did you ever end up fixing yours?

Hello Folks,

I am also having the same problem with the vacuum (light only going on for a split second), but in my case there is one more point I noted. Vacuum is making strange sound as well? Have you guys experience that as well?

Glad I read this. Found an old charger from something else..popped it in away we went..stick vac now charging

adrienneiii it is possible that the battery shorted out. When a battery shortens out it just stops vs, running a low charge. That would also explain why "the charging light lights up for a split second" I'd start with that since if nothing else, it will provide you with a known-good starting point for further troubleshooting.

Thanks oldt! Sounds right. Solution - either junk or replace battery, I guess?

by

adrienneiii not quite. Replace battery, if not working try to fix. Don't junk ;-)

Thanks, but it's one of those annoying situations where the battery unit costs almost as much as what I originally paid for the whole unit...

I am having the same problem and I have only had the vcume cleaner for all of 2 months .Surely the battery lasts longer then 2 months

Mine was doing exactly the same thing, with the light only going on for a split second. After two days I found that the connector from the charger to the base unit was loose. Put the connector in properly and now all is well.

I believe if vacuum gets a drop of water in it from the floor it kills everything.

Same problem with mine. When the vacuum was mounted to the base the light goes on then off. Sometimes would blink on and off. When I push on the vacuum to the base tighter the light goes on and stay steady. Seems the charging contact from the base to the vacuum is not seated tight to maintain good contact and the light was on steady. So every time I charge the vacuum i make sure to tie the base and the vacuum together until the light is on.

I have this issue too on my EL2089, when I hold the handheld unit into the stick it does charge. I've had to tape my handle tight into the stick

Had same problem with vacuum not charging up and cutting out, this was due to thin foam wrapping not being fully removed from vacuum cleaner, it now sits tightly in charger. I would also recommend checking power point and connector underneath charger, other than this minor issue, I highly recommend the Electrolux Pure Q9 Pro. I hope this helps existing and new buyers

Yes the hand unit was not making good contact. If this cintact is questionable the charge will not stay on/ There are 4 little cobtcts on the back bottom of the hand unit. One of these was depressed and that was the intermittent contct. I pried it out a a little and now the charge light is steady. Whew I hated that problem!

I also had this problem, but the charging capacity disappeared in a very short time. I hate to throw out devices, better repair them, so I tried to replace the batteries first. Usually, the batteries are the culprit, but in this case it did not help. Charger was OK, the small cleaner was seated OK and still not charging. Only a short flash from the LEDs from the charger seat when the vacuum cleaner was seated, then nothing and it did not charge.
SOLUTION: to make a long story short, there is a panel inside the big housing, at about the middle of the handle. There are two diodes and a multifuse plus the wires. The multifuse is the culprit. It looks like a small brown or orange disk with two leads. That is the only electronic component that has to be changed. Do not short-circuit it, but replace it. It costs a few cents only in a Radioshack or similar shop and anyone with a minimal amount of technical skills can do the work in half an hour. You regain your vacuum cleaner for another 5-6 years. Next time you will probably need to change the batteries.
As a note, I have the Ni-MH batteries equipped vacuum cleaner.

Not sure if my ergorapido lithium battery is dying?? The vac never fully charges anymore, only about 3/4. When I use it, it seriously only last for 1min. Is this a battery problem??

Does the charging indicator LED turn on during charging? If yes, it's probably a battery problem. How old is the vacuum cleaner? How much have you used your vacuum cleaner? A battery pack resists about 1000-1200 charging cycles. Roughly. This means about 3-4 years if you use it daily. But the batteries die after a while even if not used. Take it to a technician who can check the battery pack and how much current does the charging need. Not knowing the age, I would say, if the vacuum cleaner is more than 5 years old, it is possible, but if it is older than 7 years old it is probable that the batteries are dead. If it is less then 1-2 years old, there is some charging problem. In the latter case try another charger, maybe the wire is broken.
