Do MBP mid 2014 only support apples own ssd's?

So i bought a used MBP, but it only has 128GB flash, and the price for an apple 256GB is insane!

Can i use a third party m2 ssd from sandisk dor example? Or do i HAVE to buy one specifically from apple?

And what speeds can i gain if i buy an external thunderbolt ssd?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Apple uses its own custom blade SSD while its very similar to a M.2 blade SSD sadly it's not compatible.

Here's the best option for you: OWC SSD upgrades for MacBook Pro with Retina Display 13" & 15" Late 2013, 2014, and 2015
