'Black Screen of Death'? Need Help

So, my New 3DS XL (the model with amiibo support and the c-stick) suddenly stopped working. While trying to fix an issue with the 3D not working right, both screens went black. I could still hear the music and sounds playing on the main menu, but I can't select anything. The system also doesn't turn off right away when pressing the power button and it doesn't go to sleep when closed either. Everyone else I've asked thinks that I must've dropped it and knocked something loose, but after opening up the system and checking, I can't tell what's wrong. I've given up looking it up on the internet because all I get is how to fix a similar problem with the older models, and that doesn't help me in the slightest. I'm really frustrated right now and just want a straight answer. Can anyone tell me what's wrong? And how to fix it, because as a college student I really don't have the time or money to send it in for repairs.

As a side note, I bought this system over a year ago, so the warranty is expired. I'd rather not just buy a new one because I have no way of transferring my profile over to a new system. And this means I'll loose all $150+ worth of games, DLC, themes, and whatnot I've bought over 2 years of owning a 3DS, not to mention all the Pokemon I currently have stored in Pokemon Bank. So a new system is out of the question unless there's an alternate way for me to copy over/transfer my profile.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Okay, I'm guessing by now you've either pulled the battery to turn it off or it's completely shut down on it's own. In either case, when you try to turn the system back on, does it seem to stop mid boot with both LCDs apparently on but black and the power indicator blue with no other lights?

If you've answered yes, then it's probably a fault in the lower LCD. I've fixed three older XL models by replacing the lower LCD screen and can confirm they work and are fixed that way. So with that, I would invest the $10-20 on a new lower LCD off eBay to fix your problem. Make sure you also have a #00-000 phillips screw driver or get a LCD that comes with tools so you can open it up and replace the screen.

I hope this helps get you back on track to playing, good luck!

Also follow this guide to replace your lower LCD: Nintendo 3DS XL 2015 Motherboard Replacement. You won't need to remove everything they suggest here.

My 3DS has a fault where it would boot up as normal, but the screen would flash and a single POP noise can be heard. I believe it's a microtear in the speaker cable but I don't repair Nintendos for a living.
