Water damage left MacBook running on power adapter only

I spilled a large glass of clean filtered water on my laptop when my boss caught me slacking at work. I promptly opened and used a hair dryer on it for a couple of minutes (and warped my "I", "O" and "P" keys in the process) after a day I reassembled everything and hoped for the best. Turns out it's still working but only plugged to the AC adapter, the battery indicator is stuck at 51% charge, that it's not charging and that I should change it now. The hardware test handed the beautifully useful error "4BAT/1/40000000: 0x87c6ab90"

My question is, do you think a battery replacement will make everything right once again? Should I get something else? Should I just cry in agony forever?

Thanks in advance guys!

Disassemble the MacBook and clean the logic board with 90% or above isopropyl alcohol and get a new battery. Also clean everything else inside the MacBook (except the display assembly).

Btw, the 4BAT error code means battery. It's a battery error.
