The brand new screen I installed has backlight banding issues

Hello,

I purchased and installed a new Full Assembly fix kit for my wife's iPhone 5s. It powered up well and install was a cinch but there are dark bands along the top of the screen that I'm assuming are related to the backlight. Any ideas? Do I have a connection that wasn't made well or is it possible the assembly kit was a lemon?

I have a picture of the banding that I will try to upload (not so sure I can make it work).

Thanks!

Adam

For future reference, it's impossible for the backlight to cause black banding.

Good to know, thanks. Figured it was the backlight because I had an LCD tv with the exact same banding issue and according to Sharp it was a problem with the backlight.

The LCD cable is the easiest (and smallest) of the three ribbons to snap / click in place. I'd give it several attempts to get the cable connected and if its still showing banding you've either got a damaged connector or a bad screen. If it's an aftermarket screen I'd probably be tempted to go with the latter, but check your board... with a magnifying glass if needs to be. Good luck.

Thanks Mike. Giving this and the similar advice I got a shot tomorrow when my wife won't need her phone (in case something goes wrong).

Hi

It could be a bad connection from either

only way to check this is to have another screen handy.

I always find if I get banding on LCD, its usually the connection teeth on the clip

get your best magnify glass out... check all the legs are strait and clean.

happy days

Thanks Ray. Getting into it tomorrow with your advice and that of the other poster. I figured it had something to do with a connection unless the screen was just a lemon. Will let you know.
