How bad is this? The laptop is still working, but I'm wondering whether or not these wires that seem to come out of it could cause a serious problem.

I would pop the bottom cover off to see why the cover is bulged.

The so called wires I suspect is the conductive fabric covering the EMI shielding gasket. There is no other source that should cause this. Here's an image of the area from the inside: Logic board

Here's the IFIXIT guide you'll need to follow to take the cover off: MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2014 Lower Case Replacement.

Take a fresh set of pic's once you take the cover off for us to see whats happing here. You may need to reshape the cover to sit in the grove properly.

Unfortunately I don't have the necessary equipment to pop up the bottom cover off and honestly I don't really trust myself to do that. :))

Okay, so if those small wires are from the conductive fabric covering, it is not such a big issue, right? Could they cause anything more serious if I just leave them this way?

Thank you for the promt answer! I appreciate! ^^

I would be more worried with the gap here. What happened to cause it? The biggest risk here is an opening that something could get in that shouldn't

If the gasket is flaking off as your picture implies it could cause problems if it shorts out the electronics inside. With a can of can'ed air in hand you should be able to blowout the dust or anything else thats loose.

Popping off the bottom is not hard and as long as you don't touch anything inside you should be fine. Getting the needed screwdriver is not hard P5 Pentalobe Screwdriver Retina MacBook Pro and Air I would recommend also getting this kit: Essential Electronics Toolkit at you will over time need these other screwdrivers and the ESD strap.
