Sure sounds like your HD is going bad. You may have too many bad blocks, therefore your data becomes corrupted. All HD's have bad blocks which get allocated once the drive writes data to it. But, if you have too many bad blocks the HD runs out of space to allocate these bad blocks and at this point it starts to behave erratically and corrupts your data. I would copy all files and replace the HD.

+ if you reformat the drive and use the "write zeros" option, that will map out all the bad blocks in the hard drives directory and it doesn't try to access those blocks. Then restore your data and see if the problem persists

True, but when a new drive behaves like this, it's on it's way out.

its the stock drive that i got with my computer and my laptop is at least a year and a half old

I'd try DiskWarrior first though, never seen anything it can't fix.

If he has the software he could try that--if not the software would cost what a new drive would cost. And even if repaired I don't know if I would trust the drive.

+ i do not own it and would feel better about buying a whole new drive but thanks for giving me the link:)

Yes, I agree with RJ, although your suggestion is a good one, the drive is relatively new, and once a HD starts to behave that way throwing Software at it is only delaying it's inevitable failure.

all i know is when this gets worse,i will put a WD in my laptop or save even harder for a new pro with a i7 and adise possibly a dead HDD

by

It's good to buy DW anyways though- you might get a drive for cheaper, but it's cheaper when this happens again.
