Find what part that is not working?

Hi.

My wife put her iphone 5s in the washing machine with a lifeproof skin that had a leak in it.

Afterwards she tried to turn it on (which she of course shouldn't have). It didn't startup and got heated.

After like three days I had aquired the right tools and opened it up so it had a chance to dry up.

Since I dont have a clue what parts are working and not I wonder if I can test different parts without have to close the lid and to only put as few parts in as possible. What parts would that be? Is it possible to start it up witout closing the lid?

I have a spare phone that isn't working either that I can try parts from and I have bought a new battery as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Leaving it to "dry up" was your second problem (first was trying to turn it on) water is not the enemy here, its the minerals that get deposited on the motherboard when the water dries. And washing powder or liquid makes an awful mess of the board.

Washing it out in clean distilled water should have been step one, to displace the bad water. and then once it dried you may not have a need for anything else.

The motherboard is what will be damaged, so its not something I can say "replace this and you will be fine"

If there is data on the phone that you need recovered then take it to your local repair shop and ask if they do micro soldering. If they do, they should be able to retrieve the data for you.

Recovering the phone to get it working again is a bit of a black hole, it can suck all your money away trying.
