I don't know if it works

I took the screen off of my iphone 5 to see why the home button was unresponsive. I should add that i never messed with the home button. After i was finished I put the screen back on the phone but it wouldn't turn on. In an attempt to see if the phone is broken I plugged the phone into my computer and the computer recognized it but it wouldn't let me see the files. Also in case you say to message your phone and see if it makes a noise I put my phone on silent because ten minutes before doing this I was at a family members house and didn't want it to go off. Is it just the display or is it the whole phone? Please help!

This sounds like the screen cable is not correctly connected or was damaged when you removed the screen . I would open the phone again and closly examine the ribbon cables that attach the lcd and the digitizer to the logic board remember there are three to connect there is also the camera

iPhone 5 Screen Replacement

Step 15 of the guild shows the connectors . Look closely at the connectors on the board and the cable ends for damaged pins. they should snap together with ease if aligned right if they do not go together easily theres a problem with the connector. The reason you couldn't access files is you need to sign into the phone to gain acess you need to fix the screen to log in . As for the home button and power button @jbrennan51 has covered that in his answer

I would review these two step by step guides on iPhone 5 power button replacement and home button replacement. I missed one thing when repairing a phone and ended up with no power.
