My ezgo 89 starter generator/alternator wire keeps melting, why?

The starter motor/ alternator wire cranks but melts the wire to generate power i don't know what needs to be replaced in it and starts but doesn't charge that battery. I feel like it has something to do with the voltage regulator but i dont know what thats for.

@d1or2or you did not tell us which wire melts. This is usually caused by something drawing to high an amperage. you do want to check the starter/generator a swell as your regulator. You need at least a multimeter for that. Post an image of where this wire melts etc. with your question. That way we can see what you see. Use this guide for that. Attached image shows the charging components as well as the wiring.

Yeah, so Iv figured it out already, it's the voltage regulator it's broken and I'm going to order a new one but I had never needed to replace wires until it caught on fire because of the part getting old and shorting out over time, but thanks anyway
