Does this device have a hardwire connection to the internet?

I am curious if the Ambient Weather WS-1001-WIFI should have a hardwire connection to the internet or not.

No, you need to buy new upgrade device.

It appears you can run it in either mode.

I suspect the issue is if you want to allow others to access its data collection (or your self when traveling) as well the need to download updates from time to time. You will need to allow your weather station access via WiFi to your Internet router's WiFi AP.

If you keep it isolated then only the mast sensor array and the console unit are communicating as well as your local PC/Laptop.
