Why are my pictures overexposed and have horizontal lines across them?

My Sanyo Xacti S60 now gives me, outdoors, overexposed white pictures or, indoors, horizontal white lines.

I had a similar problem with a canon powershot camera which turned out to be a faulty memory card.
