Display has massive white lines, no GPU related.

So I have lying around a Macbook Pro 15" Late 2008 Unibody that failed long time ago, and I have this Macbook Pro 15" Early 2011. After a while of use the screen has half screen with a white line that lefts unable to use at least 40% of the screen. It functions normaly but it's driving me crazy.

After reading a while it's a display related failure, and went to Apple to get it changed, but they are charging me almost 520 USD (9650 MXN) for changing the whole top lid, instead just the display.

Long story short, I have a iFixit 54bit screws kit, and I was wondering if swapping the whole top lid (whole screen, without the hinges) from the MBP15 2008 and trying it on into the 2011 MacbookPro15 I have, will it work?.

Either the Apple employee didn't know or they hid this from you. Go to an ASP instead and ask them to test for this free repair program test: https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro...

Already did the repair replacement program since my GPU failed a year ago. Went again to check if it was mGPU related or faulty logic board, and nope it's just only the display. (Also note that I use an external 4K Monitor with MiniDisplayPort to DisplayPort and no white lines or issues there).

Will swapping the whole lid works? or just only swapping the Display ONLY?

That will work or the display can be repaired. Best to first hook up a spare display and see if it works beforehand, but you have to a test unit to do that.
