@tomcat66 fan belts make a squealing noise usually because the belt is slipping on the metal pulley and that is what makes the noise. Fan belts do not squeak for very long. they will eventually snap. Most of the time it is not the belt that squeaks but the tensioner pulley or other bearings on accessories driven by the belt i.e. alternator, power steering pump or similar. Take a close listen (stay away from moving belts since they do snap) replace the belt and check all the bearings.

Does it do it when the engine is accelerated ? If so, the belt is probably slipping. Check the tension and tighten if possible. Alternately, get a product called Belt Dressing from the auto supply. Spray it along the inside of the belt while the engine is running. It will make the belt less slippery and less prone to squeaking.
