How to charge a little a battery externaly

Hi

I have 2 ipad mini first generation that both have the same issue. Not powering on, not recognized by Itune when connected to a PC and indeed, not charging at all.

All these symptoms make me think about the bloody U2 IC charging chip 1608A1.

To be sure about that the good thing would be to charge the batteries for not more that 2-3% as it should be enough to enable me to start them (assuming it an U2 IC issue). Can somebody give me an advise about the charger to use and which input voltage / mAH must be used (I know that the output voltage is 3.72 V 4440 mAh but not sure for the input ) .

Thanks for the help

Get a variable power supply and set it to 3.7v. Press pos to pos and neg to neg and hold it there for 5 minutes. Measure the voltage again. See if it went up. If it did, try to start the iPad. If not, try a new battery.

Yes Gigabit878! correct. But I also need to set the AMP correctly according to the voltage/Amp specifications related to the device I want to charge externally.

Do you have a model to recommend ?

Thanks

I usually just use 1-2 amps direct to the battery when charging iPad or iPhone batteries externally.

I would only use and original Apple charger as there are reports of failures using knock offs:

iPad USB 10W AC Adapter (Original)

Lightning to USB Charging Cable

Hi Mayer

This is also what I recommend to everybody. Counterfeit lightning cables can lead to U2 chip burned out situation. But in may case I speak about Ipad that doesn't turn on , and nor recognized on Itune whose I suspect that U2 chip is dead. The idea is , once opened, to plug externally on the Pos tab of the motherboard the accurate Voltage and AMP coming from an external charger and to check if the Ipad starts like this. If yes, so great chances that it's the U2 chip that has to be replaced, if not great chances are that it's only a battery failure.

@scorpio_fr Of course we are answering questions for people will all levels of repair experience here. It can be hard to know what level they are at so you know if you're talking to a second grader or a graduate student, Please complete your profile so we can get to know you a little better ;-)

You are right :)

That's done now
