touch screen not working at all

Hi everybody

I inherited a nice Ipad Air spacial gray to repair. It looks great! the only problem is that the Touch screen is not responding at all. I removed the digitizer and I can say that it's the original one! never been changed as it was really a long and hard task even with my hot air station. (don't know which tape Apple uses but it's a good one!).

As I have a touch screen for the same model in reserve I changed it although I was almost sure of the result. And I was not deceived: still the same issue!

So it's a problem directly linked to the motherboard. Doing some request on Google I found the possibility that it could involve 2 quartz located on the mainboard just near the 2 digitizer connectors (why 2? one for vertical move & one for horizontal?)

Before I eventually buy a pair of these one did somebody encountered the same issue and how it was solved?

Thanks for your answers

Pat

Hi

I finaly came back to this Ipad issue and decided to remove the Emi shield that protects the 2 Broadcom touch screen controllers . Then I tried to use my hot air solder with to apply hot air (250°) for 5 minutes.

Then after all got cold I reassembled the LCD + Touch screen and believe it or not but it worked.... for some hours only ! :(.

Strange thing: all looks like the hot air put back to life these controllers but only for a short while!

I tried again the day after , but this time , it was unsuccessful.

Probably this proves that these controllers have to be changed. I don't know exactly how they work (why 2 controllers? )

If somebody experienced such issue, I would be grateful to have some more info

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

You have tried a reset after installation correct? Motherboards dont have a history of malfunctioning especially with ipads?

You're right that I was not precise enough.

Yes I did a reset but with no change.

It is also reported by its former proprietary that it doesn't anymore connect to WIFI.

To be precise it was reported that the first issue was the loss of any WIFI signal and shortly after the loss of touch screen capability. (if I believe him, but no reason why I shouldn't)).

I don't think there could be a common explanation with these 2 issues, but maybe I am wrong (IC power chip???)

Doubt it's a power chip issue or Wi-Fi ic issue until you've investigated the below:

- Are you having a low to no signal issue and the Wi-Fi can still be switched off and on? If yes then probably the Wi-Fi antenna module needs to be replaced. The part is cheap and can be replaced.

You can get the Wi-Fi antennae here:

Guide to replacing it:

As for the touch screen capability issue. You need to put some sort of electrical thin transparent yellow tape at the bottom part of the digitizer as there can be interference / EMI issues.

This image below shows how to stop the jumping issue from the digitizer / touch screen:

I'm not exactly sure how the digitizer cable is tucked in correctly when closing it up but I think you have to make it sit firmly and not being squished between the metal housing frame and the glass if you know what I mean.

Hopefully the digitizer cable is not damaged from being improperly placed.

Thanks Ben for the help

I don't think too that there might be a relation with these 2 issues. But as I said, it is something that cannot be entirely ignored.

This said if we consider these 2 issues as independent, my main focus is the digitizer.

In my case the touch screen - as far as I see it - is a good quality with the requested tapes and a cable that looks good (not bent, nor spoiled). Furthermore I tried another touch screen I have in reserve with the same negative result. And finally I must report that the digitizer are not responsive at all (unless the home button) .

For the wifi, that's true that t might be the antenna. But as the Ipad has been re-initialized I can't test the WIFI issue unless I fix the digitizer issue and I can go further in the initialization procedure . It might be the antenna or if no WIFI at all the WIFI IC 3390213 that is located on the main board.

So for the time being many ????? about this touch screen issue.

Hi

My ipad air's touch screen stopped working all of a sudden and no one not even apple could fix it so I bought a new one. My grandson wanted the old one so I thought that it would be worth the £12.50 to buy a new screen and replace it.

I was having difficulty heating the glue to soften it so I stuck it in the oven at 60degrees C when I took it out of the oven the thing was working perfectly but only until such times as it cools down. Weird eh?

Hi

So Actually the touch screen isn't responsive as the Ipad cooled down? Correct?

You have bought a touch screen for nothing I'm Afraid. It's not the touch screen, but probably the two or one/two Broadcom IC touch screen controlers.

I saw on youtube recently a video from Louis Rosman telling that some chip can be "repaired" for a very short while if you put the hot temperature. No need at all to push to 280-330° ! 60-90 ° is sufficient. But this is very short and just an illusion. The chip is almost dead, probably will die definively very soon and we have to replace it.

By the way : never put an electronic device in an owen!

Sure, I don't ask you to buy an hot air station, but prefer an air dryer or an hot air gun than using an owen
