Green light on adapter charger but (X) on battery indicator

I have a MacBook 4.1 2.4ghz and there is a Green light on adapter charger but (X) on battery indicator . If I remove the charger the laptop goes off. I was online and looked at a few videos on YouTube about "quick fix" battery not charging on MacBook and I tried the slight pressing on each prongs and that's when the (x) appeared before that it was "battery not charging". Also after the YouTube fix video when the (X) on the indicator replaced the "not charging" msg the power apapter all of a sudden displayed a orange solid light but randomly while connected will switch back to solid green.

An "x" indicates that the computer does not detect a battery. The computer will stay on when the charger is connected and a green light means the battery is charged or you're running on power from the charger.

All this to say, your battery is likely dead. A new battery should fix the problem.
