2014 and 2015 battery interchangable?

Hey guys,

Recently bought an early 2015 MacBook Pro 13" which had light water damage.

Opened it up and gave it a quick clean (rice everywhere...)

Only problem I can see is the MacBook can see the battery but wont charge and says it needs replacing (only 17 cycles)

The MacBook only works when connected to the charger.

Now I have a 2014 MacBook Pro 13" which functions normally.

Can I plug that battery into the 2015 model to test that it definitely is a problem with the battery before buying a replacement?

Don't want to waste money buying a replacement battery if that wont fix the issue.

Cheers!

The batteries are different and at 17 cycles is most likely not the issue. It's also a very difficult replacement. Here's some info on it: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ma...

First see if you can get a better idea of its status by downloading and running Coconut Battery:

Just updated with info from coconutBattery.

Is there anything else I can do to try and diagnose the issue?

Looks like the next step is to replace the I/O board. What does the mag-safe do when you plug it in and have you tried swapping chargers?

by

When the magsafe is plugged in its green for a second then turns amber.

I tried with my 85W magsafe and it does the same thing.

Is there any way I can diagnose with a multimeter?

by

That is normal behavior for a battery trying to charge, Leave it plugged in for a few hours with it running to see if it charges the battery up and it will turn green when fully charged,

by

It's been on charge for 2 days now and the current charge has gone down to 361mAh.

I also noticed the fan isn't running at all? Is that normal?

It doesn't seem to be over heating but I just thought the fans were constantly on?

Cheers!
