MBP won't boot if LCD cable is connected?

Macbook Pro won't boot if the LCD cable is connected. However, it the cable is disconnected and the laptop is connected to an external monitor, it boots up just fine and I can see the OS. Anyone have any ideas? Tried the SMC reset and PVRAM already. Thanks for suggestions.

No water damage. I might just try removing the whole top half and testing the top half from a working 2010 macbook pro. It almost seems like less work than getting to the cable by removing the glass.

Check the LDVS cable for bent pins or corrosion. Any water damage or falls? What is the history of the problem?

Also check that the plastic pull tab attached to the LVDS cable is not damaged: it prevents shortcuts between LVDS connector pins.
