First, some troubleshooting is needed. If the keyboard backlights are turning on, it's at least powering on. When you turn on the power, does the hard drive light in the front flash? Does the power light stay on? Do you see any visible damage?

The most likely situation is that the laptop itself still works, it's just that the display is damaged. If you don't see any visible damage to the screen, it's even possible that the internal display cable has become dislodged.

The simplest way to test this is to plug an HDMI cable into the Aspire V5's HDMI output port, and connect it to a monitor or HDTV. In most cases, it should automatically output what you'd normally see on your screen to this secondary display. Occasionally, you may need to try the function buttons that most laptops have. I believe on the V5, if you hold the Fn key (lower left, I think) and the F5 button (it should have a little icon showing a monitor or monitors) this will toggle external display on and off. I believe it's on by default, though. If the problem is only with your display, you should be able to use your computer normally using the external monitor or HDTV.
