Why coes my iPod Classic go down when not used.

If my iPod Classic sits without playing for over about 15 minutes, it crashes and I have to do a hard reset to use it. It is really annoying as every time I do to use it, I must first hard reset. The problem does not occur if it is playing, only when it sits idle without playing. I have replaced the battery, but the problem is still there.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

That problem won't have anything to do with the battery...

What happens when you don't let it sleep?/does it crash when the screen turns off or just after some amount of time?

by

It will play continuously with no problem. If it sits idle, the longer it sits without the screen, the more likely the crash. Also I have to check that it not crashed when I go the recharge it or it will not charge.

What version of the ipod is it? 5th gen or 6th gen? Did you run a diagnostic test on it? Did it pass the headphone test (HP)? Some earlier circuit boards aren't compatible with larger drives.

Other than it crashing when not being played, everything functions normally. The upgrades have not affected the problem.

It sounds like a firmware problem, something to do with waking from sleep, it can't for some reason, I would plug it into the computer (back up the songs if necessary) and rollback to an older firmware and reinstall the newest firmware and see if the problem is fixed.

P.S. When the firmware is rolled back do some testing and load a few songs on it and see if it still crashes, that way if it doesn't you can at least use it on the older firmware...

It seems that iTunes when installing, loads the same ipod software. I do not think that the software has been changed since 2014. I did force a re-install of it to see if it was corrupted on the iPod, but it did not help the problem.

Well... You have me genuinely stumped.... As do I think anyone that you take that to will be stumped too... I would say try taking it to an Apple Store and ask what they think...

If it matters, the problem did not start until a month after I replaced the headphone jack. I thought maybe I did something to it. Since then I have also upgraded to a TB. I was hoping that it was a ribbon problem, but it persisted after the upgrade.

I do not think the Apple Store will be of much help. When I took it in the see about the headphone jack, I was told that it was no longer supported and did not have any parts.
