Why is my laptop opening but does not display anything?

My laptop opens (loads) but does not display anything on it, just a black screen and the cursor. Please help me, i have tried taking the battery out and pressing the power button for a minute, but still does not work. Also tried pressing F8, Shift and power button also does not work. But sometimes it does display something and says my laptop could not turn off properly and lets me choose options like enable safemode or enable debugging. Please help me i really need my laptop to finish my papers so i can enroll this school year.

Hi, Have you tried starting your laptop in 'safe mode' to see if there is a display? Try connecting an external monitor and see if it displays the desktop.

What is the model number of your laptop and what OS is installed?

The screen is working as he can see the "boot to safe mode?" Prompt

It is either a driver problem (boot in safe mode and uninstall all display and GPU drivers and re install) or there is a Windows problem, will most likely need to reinstall OS from a backup

ethreal1 i have the same problem with my toshiba laptop and i asked a technician aboput it and he told me that there is an ic ( if i am not wrong) that should be replaced). ibut as u said it is only a driver problem or there is a windows problem it was a relief coz i cannot say that my laptop is already busted considering that it is only 4 yrs old and is really taken care of when in use.

I'm glad I could be of help, sometimes driver and windows updates just go bad, that is why you should ALWAYS have a backup...
