Power indicator light stays solid red, 3ds won't turn on.

When trying to turn my 3ds on, the power indicator light stays solid red and the screens display no signs of life. The charge indicator displays properly, so I know it's not the charge port or adapter. I have tried several different batteries, all with the same result...any suggestions?
