iPod Video (3rd or 4th generation)

My headphone jack is malfunctioning. I can only hear out of one side with my phones plugged in; when it's "partially" in, it works through both sides. Pulling and moving the cord makes the sound inconsistent out of both sides. I was told I need a new headphone jack/socket. They're asking $55 at a mac repair shop. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your time.

Answer this question I have this problem too

If your headphones have a microphone or remote sometimes it won't work with older headphone jacks. Try a different pair of headphones too, sometimes it can be the jack that is malfunctioning. If none of this works I would recommend getting them to repair it. Plus $55 isn't to bad of a price for the part and time they would spend fixing it.

-Good Luck! Brendon
