recovering data from an iPhone 5c w/ a broken motherboard/logic board

Around January of 2016, my iPhone 5c suddenly froze. This had happened before with the phone, so I used by previous solution of restarting the phone. This time, however, the apple logo lingered for much longer only to shut off again. This has happened every time I have attempted to turn on the phone since. I have tried charging it but only got the same output. I went to my local Apple Store and they told me I had a broken/fried (I cannot remember the exact word choice) motherboard and my only hope would be to wait a while or restore it. I have waited for a while and today decided to do more research. I found that the "motherboard" is actually called a logic board and from what I have read, it seems pretty hopeless. This is my last resort to see if anyone has a solution.

Answer this question I have this problem too

If your primary interest is data, I would first try to put a new battery in the phone. New batteries come with some amount of charge in them, and if your phone has a charging problem, then this may be enough to bring it to life enough for you to make an icloud backup over wifi or email pictures etc.

If this doesn't work, then you'd need fairly specialized troubleshooting of the logic board, which is entirely possible. You can learn a lot about logic board troubleshooting and board repair on YouTube and from the iFixit microsoldering video series. It certainly necessarily hopeless. Many dead iPhone boards can be recovered.
