I suspect you somehow formatted the drive for Linux so your computer is not currently seeing the drive. You should however, be able to boot with your install disk and then format the drive for OS 10. If unable you may need to place the drive in an external case and connect it to another unit to format it. Ralph

You might possibly be able to use a partitioning program to delete current partitions on that drive so you can start over. Ralph

Could you find an external firewire hard drive or external optical drive to boot from ? You can also use the firewire target disk mode to install a system on your drive via another Mac.

@lemerise I was also planning to do the same thing, but I have no option to get an other Mac, since Macs are very rare in my place. I'll certainly tryout the external optical drive option.

I tried to boot from a Bootable USB flash drive and unable to do that.. because the option key doesn't list anything other than asking me the password and then leading to a blank white/grey screen with a mouse pointer..

now the startup chimess sound of mac is also disappeared..

Thanks for your reply...

Asking you for a password? Is there any chance you set a firmware password on this? What model mac, what version of OSX did you have before you attempted to reformat it? The picture on this question shows a mini, but careful reading of your posts does not say what kind of Mac it is. I haven't seen a firmware password for years; is your Mac very old?

I have found that a bad hard drive will cause this same type of issue many times. I would replace the hard drive, reformat it and then reinstall the MAC OS Been there , did that.

Before getting new equipment, consider resetting the vram, rebooting in safe mode, and booting to single user mode and working from there. Here's an article you might look at. Best of luck.
