Can not detect new hard drive

My hard drive died, ordered a new one and installed it. I am still getting the question mark and folder icon. I boot up in recovery mode and my new hard drive does not show up. I have taken it apart and checked to make sure everything is connected.

As far as my laptop is concerned there is no hard drive. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your drive cable failed. You'll need this part: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable - Apple P/N 923- 0084. Follow this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2012 Hard Drive/IR Sensor Cable Replacement.

Before you toss out your old drive you may want to check it out, it maybe still good. Get a SATA to USB adapter to connect it to your system. At least recover your apps and data files using the migration assistant.
