iPod touch won't turn on, won't charge...no damage to it. HELP!

I've had my ipod touch, I believe 4th gen, for approx 5 yrs. Haven't used it in awhile and never been damaged. Now I can't get it to turn on, charge...nothing! ITunes doesn't recognize it's plugged in...please help!
