Replacing Digitizer gasket to LCD

Is there supposed to be a foam gasket between digitizer and LCD?

The original seems to have some type of gasket on the back of the digitizer but the replacement does not, nor can I find a part for that.

Options

When the iPad has never been opened before you will see this black/grey foam stocked around the digitizer glass and the LCD. This is to stop dust going on the LCD. This is not needed and is optional.
