Why wont my optical drive not accept disc?

I replaced my optical drive but my optical drive will not accept disc. I purchased the console used with the original drive not working at all. I purchased the correct replacement drive. But when I installed the replacement drive it does nothing. All the wires are connected firmly in place. Also I have repaired the data base and reset the console but nothing it's like the drive is dead. The previous disc when I got it was dead I took it apart and seen the white connector rod was out of place. But I believe they're may be something related to power but not for sure. I can try to insert disc with it in rest mode and the console powers on but will not accept the disc. Any ideas on what this issue is and how to fix it. Thanks

You most likely have damaged the large ribbon cable that goes from the motherboard to the disc drive. One each end of it there are small "ears" that are easy to tear off. If they are torn off then the cable won't plug fully into the connectors, or it might plug in crooked. It has to plug in straight and fully in order for it to work.

There is also a 4 wire connector that connects to the green board on the disc drive. You need to be 100% sure that this one is plugged in all the way as well.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Did you see this note from the Ifixit guide on replacing a PS4 odd PlayStation 4 Optical Drive Replacement

"Be aware that the optical drive is "married" to the motherboard. If you need to replace your optical drive you must remove the motherboard on the original optical drive and install it on the drive you intend to install in your PS4".

Can you prove using a DMM (Digital Multimeter - using the Voltmeter function) that there is power going to the ODD from the header connection on the motherboard?
