Upgrade logic board with more recent 15'' ones?
Hi,
My Macbook Pro 17'' from 2010 is getting old, very old. The dual core is really showing the age and I already upgraded what's upgradable (RAM, SSD).
I'm planning on waiting for the new 2016 skylake announce, but in between I have an idea : sometimes, people throw away their macbook thinking it's dead but in fact with some tinkering it's working again. I wanted to find a working 15 board with a more up-to-date quad core i7 and graphic card and put it in my 17 chassis. The goal is not to spend more than like 50 bucks for a "pseudo-broken" Macbook Pro.
Do you think it could work ? I'm not afraid to mod my chassis, because I won't be keeping this laptop forever anyway.
Would some connectors be incompatible (the screen most likely) ? What about Mac OS X going crazy with the new board ?
P.S. : Of course this applies only if I get a board and not the 15'' chassis that goes with it.
Is this a good question?
