@booneheads runs fast in slow positions with the choke? What model is it? what have you tried to fix it? what engine does your mower have?

model#405002x8 12.5 hp 40" cut.looks like a small spring is broken from somewhere around carb area

@booneheads going by your Murray number your mower should have a Briggs and Stratton 28V707 TYPE 1113-E1 engine. You said that you found a small broken spring. Could be from one of the jets as well as the linkage. Take a look at the parts manual Briggs-&-Stratton-28v700_28v799.pdf and see if you can determine where it comes from. The other thing you can do is take a couple of pictures and post those with your question. Use this guide to show you how to do that

maybe there is grime in the machine. you could take it apart and/or return it if it has a warranty.
