Internal Mic doesn't work, even after replacing dock assembly

So, my iPhone 3G had a shoddy mic which would work when only you squeeze the phone. Thinking it was the connection, I resoldered the mic and it was fine for like an hour, so I decided to buy a new dock connector assembly to fix it permenently.

The iPhone headphones work fine--when plugged in I hear sound and I can use that mic. When they're unplugged, the built-in speaker works, just not the built-in mic.

Anyway, I installed the new dock connector assembly, but the mic now doesn't work at all. The actual dock connector and speaker work fine, and the mic built into the headphones works.

I am wondering if there is some trick to getting that piece installed that would affect only the mic, or is there anything I'm overlooking? (I did pull some lint out of the headphone jack, but it didn't help).

Thanks for any help you guys can give

I got an "OEM" dock assembly from ebay.

The ribbon cable connecting the assembly to the logic board was slightly too long and therefore forced the connector in the ribbon to partly pop out of the logic board connector. That resulted in loss of mic and dock port in my case. Maybe in just affects the mic in your case?

Try opening the phone, put preassure and put preassure on the connector. Then call someone and see if it works...

Oh, this involves opening the phone while it's powered on... Do at your own risk......

I had intermittent mic failure over the week of Thanksgiving this year. The only cause I can think of was a short fall from seat to floor on bus. Another short fall from similar height may have reseated my cable. I'm not sure.
