Locked out! Need help

My aunt gave me her old laptop that she got from magik it is totally pd for fee n clear n has been since I've had it for over 2 yrs. it's a presario cq62 compaq laptop. Well my daughter turned it on today to finish her research paper for school n got a screen saying that we need a password from the owner well she doesn't know what I'm talking about n doesn't have a password to unlock the laptop. I don't know what to do!! It's telling me to give an offline key to her n she'll give me the password that's what I did n still nothing!! Can someone please help me so my daughter can finish her research paper n don't get a E on it!!!
