My 160 gb iPod Classic will light up, but won't play.

I am wondering what to do with my 160 gb iPod Classic that will light up and then not play. The ear bud chord is fine. Everything looks like it is a go but literally will not go. Any thoughts as to the solution?

It could be that the hard disk has died. Some people have had success reviving such hard disks with a program called Spinrite (from grc.com), which is a sophisticated disk recovery program. You'd have to disassemble the ipod and attached the hard disk to a PC with an adapter (fairly cheap on eBay) then run Spinrite on the PC to recover the disk. Spinrite isn't cheap ($89) but it comes with a money back offer if it doesn't work for you.
