touch screen not working and dead display?

bought iPhone 5c from eBay with a completely unresponsive touchscreen and the screen had a grid pattern over it. i first tried a new screen but this didn't help. i then tried update phone and set as new, (this is where it got worse) the update finished and restarted the phone and during the boot cycle the apple logo slowly faded away and left a black screen and i also noticed the top right hand side of phone was very hot. replaced the screen but still only black screen, the phone is recognized by iTunes

Touch screen and backlight IC is most likely at fault. Not user replaceable and requires skilled soldering and reballing skills. I'd take this to a person that specializes in these types of repairs.

Additionally the logic board circuit for the display may be damaged as the previous owner may have either taken it to a repair shop to fix it but damaged the logic board because they used the wrong screws for the metal plate on the logic board to connect the display cables firmly or the owner has done that himself.

Note that if the wrong screws are used, the screw can cut through the logic board circuit and damage the phone. This is also repairable but not by user.

Sounds like it could be board related. To narrow it down I would eliminate a few things.

1. Try a dfu mode restore. Google it for info.

2.) Could been a bad replacement part as well as original part when you bought the phone.

3.) Check the board where the screen connects to see if the connector looks damaged.

4.) If you are this far sounds like it is a logic board issue.
