Wifi see's network connects for 1 sec ata time?

Hi,

My iphone 3g 8gb 4.01 can see the wifi networks but can only connect for a few seconds? I have done the reset network and reset all many times without any chance.

I use the wefi app and it continually try's to connect.

I have a router with no security, does it have to have a special setup to allow Iphones? ie 3G or 802.11 { g or N}??

I don't understand how the problem can be hardware when it finds all the networks but won't connect. I have it jailbroken but do not have a working sim {used one to get it started} do most iphone switch continually from G to wifi when the wifi stops?

I am thinking about going back to just basic apple and unjailbroken but then would not be able to jailbreak again if I don't get internet service. I had to lay the iphone on a bed of ice the last time just to get connection long enough to jailbreak.

what is the history of this phone?has it been dropped or had water damage?... why did you have put it in ice to jailbreak?

if it was damaged at top of phone you might want to think about changing the wifi connector (no6)

how far do you have to be to wifi point to get signal?

Yeah it was dropped and broke the screen.

Not much more damage than that.

I saw a youtube where you sit the phone on an ice pack and it connects to the wifi, it worked and I managed to sustain a connection long enough to jailbreak. I don't need to be close to a wifi point to see it, it connects then when a browser tries to connect I lose the connection.

Connector no6 is that the whole bottom unit with the usb and everything as one?

connector 6 is at the top left hand corner of the motherboard as you look at the screen. it has a very small pin connector at one end and a thin bit of silver metal at the other. the metal part is hidden underneath a black plastic cover and seems quite well protected. the actual piece is quite small but the ribbon has a screw hole in the middle and it makes it vulnerable at that point.

markus weiher has answered similar question sometime ago, had some better advice too. but i can't seem to find it. try doing a search for wifi antenna 3g and see if you can find it.

I read something earlier about this but it was not the same issue in that case they could not get any connection.

That's probably what you are referring to. I still don't have an answer.

So any reason why it connected while on a bag full of ice water?

My first answer has been bothering me that I've got the wrong antenna.. Lots of other answers say they've replaced gps antenna which doesn't fix the problem! So then it's antenna on dock... Have you any normal signal? You say you're using as an iPod. Is this because you have no signal? Jailbreaking can disrupt wifi. Have you checked your settings?(in general-settings) to see if you have address? There's a good answer for wifi on 12 July. Try that. Sorry my Internet is down which is why I can't paste link.
