Can I use the magnetic iFixit screwdriver and bits?

I bought the iFixit screwdriver set, which is magnetic. I was recently told that magnetic tools can damage components inside computers like the hard drive, etc. Should I be using this screwdriver for my phone, my laptop or any other PC because of the possibility of ruining components? Do I need to buy a non-magnetic set of bits?

The small magnets in the iFixit screwdriver set will not do any harm to hard drives and other electronic components. In order to damage a hard drive you'd have to expose it to much stronger magnetic fields.

Whoever told you that such tools may damage components is talking nonsense.

Non-magnetic tools (as in, tools made of special steel that is not attracted by magnets and therefore cannot be magnetized) are essential only when you're working on stuff that has very strong magnets, to avoid your tools flying around and ending up where you don't want them.
