The tv does not any longer receive commands from remote i.e. Volume.

Remote works only for direct tv receiver. The tv does not receive commands from remote for on, off or volume . Says IR or RF has not been programmed but attempts to program fails. The original Visio remote does work as well as to volumn or on, off .

Correction: the original visio remote does not work.

I have changed batteries, no help. I have recieved a new remote from Direct TV, no help. Direct TV box does respond to all remote activity. All troubleshooting points to the infared sensor on the Visio TV. Volumn adjustments, or to turn the TV on or off must be done by manual buttons on the TV. Does anyone do TV repair anymore?

Hello, I'm sorry. The model num is Visio V042L FHDTV10A. I looked at the back of the TV and do not see any type of "reset button" I have also tried to reset by the TV's manual buttons through menu settings. Nothing. When trying to use remote, it says that "RF" settings are not programed. I have followed the set up instructions many times to no avail. I cannot find any other reset buttons anywhere. I have unplugged the TV and still nothing. Thank you for corresponding on this matter. BTW, I have not had any remote issues until this started about a month ago. I have also tried new batteries, and also a new remote. Also, the original Visio remote does not work on the TV in any fashion.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi, At what point does it fail when you go to setup the programming of the remote? What have you tried to do? Can you edit your question to show that the problem is with a Direct TV product - list model number of Direct TV? I don't think that the Vizio TV is the problem.

Hi, Have you tried to 'reset' the TV back to the default factory settings? This option is available in TV's menus. Since you don't state the model number I cannot point it out to you.

Doug Davis, sounds like a bad IR sensor board. Vizio part number for that board for your model is 3642-0052-0189
