Severe Screen Trauma-Repair/replacement woes.

Heya ifixit community. My 15" MacBookPro Core2Duo A1260 had a little accident.

I was removing it from my bag one fateful night, and accidentally dropped it on its "back"(top clamshell). When I opened it up, I was suprised to see that there was no cosmetic damage, except for a bright rainbow show on my screen.

The screen is completely unusable, but I can still recognize colors (like, red when I'm on Netflix etc.) The computer works fine, but requires connection to a ext. monitor.

Now, I didn't even bother calling Apple, because an "Act of God" as they called it cost me $1,000 no more than a year ago. In fact, pretty much everything but the screen was replaced-and still it came home with a gash in the screen. I want to do the work myself and not let those maniacs get their hands on it.

My question is, if the screen still displays (albeit colours, cracks, and nonsense), do I need to buy the whole display assembly ($600-$700!) or just the LCD screen (~$200).

Thank you very much!
