I bought the wrong optical drive, do I need a new one?

Hi there!

I have an A1811 Macbook, from May 2009.

The optical drive's pretty much fried, so I recently bought a new one and tried to install it. To my horror, the new drive that I bought has a PATA/IDE connection, and my optical drive flex cable is the 821-0770-A type, which is a SATA cable.

I can see the 821-0408-A optical flex cable on eBay which has the correct PATA/IDE connection to fit onto my optical drive. But I'm not 100% certain that it has the correct connection at the other end to fit onto my motherboard. Does anyone know if it will work, or do I have to send this optical drive back and buy the SATA version?

Thanks :)

Sorry guy, new drive time.

You can't switch the cable to make a IDE drive work via a SATA interface.

Return the drive and get the correct unit.
